Grants and Scholarships

Apart from national and international grant sources, there are various sources of grants and scholarships specifically for international students wishing to study in Greece. These include:

The State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) offers scholarships for postgraduate and post-doctoral research.  There are also scholarships offered for Greek Language courses.

The Ministry of Education offers scholarships to non-EU nationals for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Greek Universities or research in a Greek research institute, as well as for summer seminars in Greek Language and Civilization.  Calls are usually made in February with a closing date in April for the forthcoming academic year.

Check the Ministry site for calls, eligibility, and guidelines. Check also the Ministry’s Education Network site for other possible scholarship opportunities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also runs a scholarship programme for non-EU nationals for graduate studies and post-doctoral research.  Check the HellenicAid site and the Hellenic Embassy site in your home country for open calls.

There are also a number of Foundations which offer scholarships to foreign nationals for study in Greece.

Significant among these are the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation (Foreigners Fellowship Programme) and the A.G. Leventis Foundation [Educational Grants Scheme].
